ASSOCIATION OF REGISTERED GRAPHIC DESIGNERS
20 design students from across Canada win 2024 RGD Student Awards

The Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) has released the winners of the 2024 Student Awards, with 20 students from across Canada winning top honours.

The Student Awards recognize excellence in student communication design. This year's competition received over 1,160 entries from 450 students representing 40 Canadian post-secondary schools. Submissions spanned 18 categories in a range of disciplines and specialties. Esteemed design professionals evaluated the entries for design quality, creativity and strategic thinking, awarding winners with $1,000 in cash prizes provided by industry sponsors.

Capilano University students led the results with six awards, followed by York University with four awards and Kwantlen Polytechnic University with three. George Brown College, LaSalle College and Seneca College each had two students receive awards, and Conestoga College, OCAD University and Red River College each had one student recognized.

The winners are:

• Hannah Blizzard (York University), Issues Magazine Shop Award for Editorial Design (tie)
• Lucy Chen (OCAD University), q30 Award for Brand Design
• Melody Chen (York University), Issues Magazine Shop Award for Editorial Design (tie)
• Meleana Conquer (George Brown College), 52 Pick-Up Award for Typography
• Matteo Ferralasco (Kwantlen Polytechnic University), One Method Award for Augmented Creativity and Shikatani Lacroix Design Award for Retail Design
• Alexa Flikkema (Conestoga College), Artista 1st Year Award
• Carmen Huang (Capilano University), Context Creative Award for Accessible Design
• Nazeem Junggee (LaSalle College), Gravity Inc. Award for Design for Social Good (tie)
• Gisoo Kang (Seneca College), Zulu Alpha Kilo Award for Advertising Design
• Lisa Lee (George Brown College), Forge Media + Design Award for UX Design
• Natasha Lee (Capilano University), Weaymouth Creative Award for Packaging Design (Series) (tie)
• Alisa Luo (Red River College), Modern Design Academy Award for Motion Design (tie)
• Elias Lemke (Kwantlen Polytechnic University), Entro Award for Placemaking Design
• Nicole Nguyen (York University), Pivot Award for Information Design
• Felicia Pangestu (LaSalle College), Weaymouth Creative Award for Packaging Design (Series) (tie)
• Kyle Rask (Capilano University), Shikatani Lacroix Design Award for Packaging Design (Single)
• Cherry Wu (Seneca College), Creative Currency Award for Storytelling
• Saumya Wickramasinghe (York University), The Works Design Award for Web Design

In addition to the winners, over 70 students received honourable mentions for their outstanding submissions.
