November 13, 2024

The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is working to build an education system that:

  • Supports the achievement and wellbeing of all students
  • Welcomes and includes all families
  • Fosters the growth of all who work within it
  • Is working to dream about and transform the trajectory of Public Education

This work was recognized at the Global Innovation Management Institute (GIMI) Innovation Awards in third place, which placed the work of WRDSB within the top three in the world in the Best Innovator - Public Sector category.

Director of Education jeewan chanicka attended the awards ceremony in Barcelona, Spain. He accepted the award on behalf of all our students, families, community partners and staff who are involved in helping to create a WRDSB where every student can achieve their full potential.

"While I'm receiving this award, this reflects a clear commitment to changing the trajectory of public education. I receive this honouring our ancestors and the many shoulders I stand on; a leadership council and senior team that has worked tirelessly to create systemic change; all our staff, families, community members, trustees and most importantly our students who believe we can do better," said Director chanicka. "To be in the top three in the world and the only K-12 system recognized in this way is an honour and strengthens our commitment to continue to dream and transform education on behalf of all those we serve!"
