Bridget McSwiggan, a teacher at École McTavish High School, has quickly established herself as a remarkable educator within the Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD). Her dedication towards her students and school community has earned her a prestigious nomination for the Alberta School Boards Association's (ASBA) Edwin Parr Teacher Award, honouring the exceptional contributions of first-year teachers in Alberta.

For nearly six decades, the Edwin Parr Teacher Award has celebrated outstanding first-year teachers who embody educational excellence and a commitment to their students' growth. Bridget's inaugural year in teaching has set an impressive standard through her innovative teaching methods, dedication to student success, and ability to foster a nurturing and inspiring classroom environment.

Dr. Mark Dolmont, Principal of Ecole McTavish, speaks highly of Bridget's impact on both her students and the school community:

"In my 8 years as an administrator, I have evaluated approximately 21 teachers; however, during this time, I have never come across such an exceptional first-year teacher. From the moment Bridget entered the classroom, she has created an environment where students feel valued, respected, and motivated to succeed. Bridget balances compassion with high academic expectations; she helps each student reach their fullest potential. Additionally, Bridget works tirelessly in her pursuit to ensure her students are not only learning but thriving and growing as kind and productive (future) citizens. Despite being in her first year, Bridget has demonstrated a strong understanding of effective lesson planning and assessment design. Bridget is committed to being a reflective practitioner and approaches each day with a curious mindset - she is always wishing to improve and expand her knowledge."

École McTavish High School is immensely proud to nominate Bridget McSwiggan for the Edwin Parr Award. Her compassion, commitment, and pursuit of excellence reflect the very spirit of this prestigious recognition. Bridget embodies the values of respect, engagement, safety, and success, which are foundational to FMPSD's educational mission. She has already left a lasting impression on her students and colleagues, and her potential as an educator promises an even brighter future for all lucky enough to learn under her guidance.

Bridget's nomination reflects her exceptional passion and dedication, showcasing the incredible impact a teacher can have on the lives of their students and their greater school community.
