Dozens of high school students got to mind someone else's business this week as part of a competition at Cambrian College.
The third annual High School Business KPMG Case Competition was held at Cambrian's Barry Downe campus. More than 60 students from high schools in the Greater Sudbury area took part in the event.

During the competition, teams of students were presented with a scenario involving a local business and they had to come up with the solution.
"We really love putting on this competition, because it encourages students to be real problem-solvers, but we also hope they will consider careers in business, maybe even starting their own," explains Craig O'Neill, professor and program coordinator of the Bachelor of Business Administration program at the Douglas A. Smith Family School of Business at Cambrian College. "We are very grateful to KPMG for sponsoring the event again this year. I also want to thank Manitoulin Transport and Science North for volunteering to be our business case studies and giving our students this wonderful opportunity."
This year, grade 10 students had to recommend a marketing plan to enhance the social media presence of Direct Right Cartage, a business-to-business delivery operation included in the Manitoulin Group of Companies, which also owns Manitoulin Transport.
The team of Bella Perry and Blake Gough from Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School placed first, just ahead of their classmates Manu Patil and Sophie Turpin. Zayl Boyuk and Clarke McNeil of St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School placed third.
Grade 12 students were given the task of exploring changes to Science North's overall membership strategy by proposing new types of memberships and/or price changes, while maintaining a goal of providing equal access and opportunity for all.
Lo-Ellen's Maddie Buchowski and Ella Lumme won this category, with Wesley Wei and Christy Chen of St. Benedict placing second, and Endora de Lange and John Contini of Lo-Ellen finishing third.
Several prizes were given away, including a $500 scholarship for any program within Cambrian's Douglas A. Smith Family School of Business.
