The Ontario Council for Technological Education (OCTE) has recognized Mat Reive, computer engineering, robotics, and computer science teacher and technological education curriculum leader at Collingwood CI with their Excellence in Teaching Award - Secondary.
This award recognizes a secondary teacher who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to the delivery and promotion of technological education through the delivery of curriculum and the organization/participation in events that promote technological education to students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and the community.
Reive was nominated for the award by a number of colleagues, including Jenny Millar, Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Technological Education Facilitator, Renewal and Sustainability. In her nomination, Millar noted Reive's many contributions, including leading SCDSB teams to success at Skills Ontario and robotics competitions, advocating for the latest technology and tools, and promoting the importance of technology education through community outreach and events such as workshops and showcases highlighting student work.
"Reive makes technological education relevant and engaging for students, and is a leader in curriculum development and promotion of technological education and the skilled trades," said Dean Maltby, Associate Director/Superintendent of Student Achievement. "Delivering and maintaining high-quality technological education programs for students would not be possible without the contributions of the SCDSB's central and school-based staff."
