Premier Hogan and Minister Davis Announce Recipients of 2025 Teaching Awards

The Honourable John Hogan, KC, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, announced the recipients of the 2025 Premier's Award for Innovation in Teaching and the Minister's Award for Compassion in Teaching during an awards ceremony at The Rooms on June 20.

The Premier's Award for Innovation in Teaching honours outstanding K-12 teachers in all disciplines who have demonstrated innovation in instruction and a commitment to preparing their students for future success.

2025 Premier's Award recipients are:

  • Angela O'Brien, Prince of Wales Collegiate, St. John's
  • Sara Barry, Holy Trinity Elementary, Torbay

The Minister's Award for Compassion in Teaching recognizes inspirational and compassionate K-12 teachers who have gone above and beyond to support the social, emotional and mental well-being of their students, colleagues or school community as a whole.

2025 Minister of Education's Award recipients:

  • Heather Cull-Tilley, St. Joseph's Academy, Lamaline
  • Janice Spencer, Corner Brook Regional High
  • Luce Landry, École des Grands-Vents, St. John's
  • Matthew Hillier, St. Teresa's, St. John's
  • Sherry Maher, Cowan Heights Elementary, St. John's
  • Valerie Sheppard, Peacock Primary, Happy Valley-Goose Bay
  • Paula Courage, Beachy Cove Elementary, Portugal Cove-St. Philip's

The Premier's and Minister's Teaching Awards were established in 2021 to acknowledge the leadership role that educators play in the lives of students.
