Two students from Peel District School Board (PDSB) have demonstrated academic and personal success by being awarded Schulich Leader Scholarships. Each year 100 Schulich Leader Scholarships are awarded to students across Canada; 50 engineering scholarships valued at $120,000 each and 50 science, technology or math scholarships valued at $100,000 each.

Yash Sharma from Brampton Centennial Secondary School has been selected to receive an engineering $120,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. This fall, Yash will be attending Western University.
Sean Zhang from The Woodlands Secondary School has been selected to receive a $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. Sean will be studying Computer Science at the University of Waterloo this fall.
"To me, being a leader means taking one step outside of your comfort zone everyday. Becoming a Schulich Leader this year demonstrates the resilience and perseverance that I showed throughout my 4 years in high school. These two skills are what I believe are two of the most important things to have as a student, and leader," said Yash Sharma. "I cannot wait to study engineering at Western University this fall and further my education. I am incredibly thankful to be able to have such a strong support system, like my family, friends and teachers, and be able to learn every single day! One day, I hope to make a change in my community and inspire others."
Recognizing the increasing importance and impact that STEM disciplines will have on the prosperity of future generations, businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich established this $100+ million scholarship fund in 2012 to encourage our best and brightest students to become Schulich Leader Scholars: the next generation of entrepreneurial-minded, technology innovators.
"We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Yash and Sean on receiving this well-deserved recognition," said Rashmi Swarup, Director of Education. "These scholarships not only support students in pursuing their goals and passions but also play a vital role in shaping tomorrow's leaders. Their success reflects the strong foundation built through the dedication of PDSB educators, staff, peers, and families who have supported them throughout their educational journey."
Through The Schulich Foundation, these prestigious entrance scholarships are awarded to 100 high school graduates enrolling in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) undergraduate program at 20 partner universities in Canada. Every high school in Canada can submit one Schulich Leader Nominee per academic year based on academic excellence in STEM, entrepreneurial leadership, and financial need.

Sean Zhang
"Schulich Leader Scholarships enable Canada's top universities to attract and retain our exceptional STEM talent here at home, empowering them to become the innovators and entrepreneurs our country needs. When these scholars go on to drive prosperity and strengthen our economy, Canada must ensure the right economic conditions exist so they can build their promising futures here. Supporting their entrepreneurial ambition is essential for turning Canadian ingenuity into lasting national success," says program founder Mr. Schulich. We are confident that both Yash and Sean will have promising futures ahead of them and we look forward to witnessing their ongoing success.
