The University of New Brunswick is proud to announce the 2025 recipients of the Arthur and Sandra Irving Primrose Scholarship at UNB Saint John. This year's recipients are Gabrielle Barrieau and Jacob Fyffe.

Valued at $40,000 over four years, the Arthur and Sandra Irving Primrose Scholarship recognizes outstanding students for their academic achievement, community involvement and athletic leadership. The scholarship was founded more than two decades ago by Sandra Irving, C.M. (BA'95, DLITT 09) and the late Arthur Irving, O.C., O.N.B. (DLITT '09).
"For more than two decades, the Arthur and Sandra Irving Primrose Scholarships have rewarded outstanding leadership by top high school students entering the University of New Brunswick in Saint John," said UNB's president and vice chancellor, Dr. Paul J. Mazerolle. "UNB's longstanding friendship with Sandra and Arthur Irving is a source of great pride for our university. We are proud of the many Primrose Scholars who have benefited from this continued generosity and gone on to make meaningful contributions in their communities."
Gabrielle Barrieau is a graduate of Saint John High School. Barrieau played hockey, soccer and field hockey for her high school, and in her final year she received the Principal's Choice sportsmanship award. In addition to volunteering with several school initiatives, she has also volunteered at Shannex Parkland long-term care facility and worked as a lifeguard at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.
Jacob Fyffe is a graduate of Hampton High School, where he excelled at volleyball and basketball. He has volunteered as a volleyball coach and referee, and assisted with physical education programs in local elementary and middle schools. Beyond school, he represented his province as a member of the Team New Brunswick U16 volleyball team.
Barrieau and Fyffe are both enrolled in the bachelor of science in engineering degree program at UNB's Saint John campus.
"We are proud to welcome Gabrielle and Jacob to our growing community of Primrose Scholars, a group of now more than 50 previous scholars who are leaders in our community - in business, medicine, science, engineering and the arts," said Sandra Irving. "We congratulate Gabrielle and Jacob and really look forward to all they will accomplish in the next four years and beyond."
