Capilano University graduate Morgan Abele (Bachelor of Motion Picture Arts, 2024) has won season 18 of CBC's Short Film Face Off with her debut film Sounds of Glass, earning the Telefilm Canada award and a $30,000 grant toward her next project.

"It was surreal and overwhelming," said Abele. "This being my first film out of school, the recognition means so much it's a push to keep creating."
Sounds of Glass is a silent film that explores grief and emotional release through the story of Enna, a shopkeeper who sells bottled sounds to help people relive memories.
Abele developed the project while studying in CapU's motion picture arts program, with a crew made up almost entirely of classmates. She received support through the Three Shores Artist in Residency program, which provided funding and a shooting location an abandoned butcher shop donated by a local developer.
"Morgan was always full of creative ideas and boundless energy throughout her studies in the Motion Picture Arts program," said Michael Thoma, chair, School of Motion Picture Arts. "It's wonderful to see her creative endeavours acknowledged through CBC and the film community."
The CBC competition featured nine filmmakers from across Canada, with viewers voting for the winner.
