Appointments to the CIRAIG management team

The International Reference Centre for the Life Cycle of Products, Processes and Services - CIRAIG announces the appointment of Sara Russo Garrido as Executive Director and François Saunier as Assistant Executive Director.

Associate Professor at the Institute of Environmental Sciences at the Université du Québec à Montréal - UQÀM, Sara Russo Garrido holds a Master's degree in International Development and a Master's degree in Environmental Policy from Oxford University, where she studied on a Rhodes Scholarship. A CIRAIG member since 2013, she specialises in social life cycle assessment and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Prior to joining CIRAIG, Sara Russo Garrido worked in the field of corporate social responsibility, first with the Canadian government and then with labour organisations in the United States. Russo Garrido succeeds Sophie Fallaha, who has been the organization's Executive Director for the past ten years.

François Saunier holds a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering from the École nationale supérieure des industries chimiques (ENSIC) in Nancy, France, and a Master's in Chemical Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal. A member of the CIRAIG since 2011, he has been involved in numerous life cycle assessments and related studies, as well as in training activities for academic and professional audiences. François Saunier, who succeeds Russo Garrido, is responsible for projects related to carbon neutrality and the operationalization of the circular economy at the CIRAIG.

In their new roles, Sara Russo Garrido and François Saunier's main mandate will be to implement the CIRAIG's scientific and knowledge transfer program for sustainability metrics, with the goal of accelerating a sustainable transition.

"I'm very pleased with the appointment of Sara Russo Garrido and François Saunier as Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director, respectively. Their leadership, expertise and vision are structuring assets for the team and will be key in their new roles," said Full Professor Réjean Samson, who is Department of Chemical Engineering and Director General of the CIRAIG.

The CIRAIG is a research group and centre of expertise focused on sustainable development and life cycle thinking. Through cutting-edge research, expert services and education, this research group works to define and implement sustainability metrics. It brings together expertise from Polytechnique Montréal, UQAM and the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO) in Sion, Switzerland.
