First Nations University of Canada Appoints Dr. Ramona Neckoway as Vice-President, Academic

First Nations University of Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ramona Neckoway as Vice-President, Academic, effective January 1, 2026.

Following an extensive national search, Dr. Neckoway joins the University's Executive team with a strong record of academic leadership, research, and advocacy for Indigenous education. She is a First Nation scholar from Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation in northern Manitoba and holds a PhD from the University of Manitoba.

Dr. Neckoway has held senior leadership roles across post-secondary institutions, including Program Chair, Director, Associate Vice-President, and Vice-President of Indigenous Initiatives and Reconciliation. Her work has been instrumental in advancing Indigenous language programming, language revitalization, and culturally grounded academic initiatives.

She brings extensive experience in teaching and research, along with a deep commitment to Indigenous knowledge systems, ethical research practices, and collaborative, community-engaged leadership.

"Dr. Neckoway brings an exceptional depth of experience and a strong vision for Indigenous post-secondary education," said Jacqueline Ottmann, President of First Nations University of Canada. "Her leadership will play a key role in advancing academic excellence while strengthening our responsibility to Indigenous communities, Nations, and students."

Dr. Neckoway will begin her role at the University's Saskatoon Campus and will also spend time at the Prince Albert Campus. Her permanent office will be located at the Regina Campus, where she will be on site during the week of January 19, 2026.

First Nations University of Canada looks forward to Dr. Neckoway's leadership as the institution continues to advance Indigenous scholarship, student success, and its role as Canada's national Indigenous university.
