Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce Darryl Hern has been appointed principal of Immanuel Christian Secondary School, commencing the 2026/2027 school year.
Hern is a student-centred, experienced and innovative educational leader with a proven track record of effective educational leadership.
Hern brings a comprehensive understanding of both academic and operational structures, with an ability to lead and inspire staff, drive positive change and focus on student success.
Building positive, collaborative relationships and implementing innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of students will be a major focus for Hern as he joins the ICSS team.
"I am excited to join the team at ICSS, a school with a great history of providing strong academics from a Christ-centred viewpoint, excellence in athletics and fine arts, and deep community roots and support," said Hern.
Hern, the current principal at Prairie Christian Academy in Three Hills, Alberta, began his career as a teacher with Edmonton Public Schools. He moved to B.C. for four years before returning to Alberta in 2010. His first administrative post was at Drayton Christian School, where Hern served as a vice-principal. Hern then moved on to Delia School, where he was named principal in 2014, before joining Prairie Christian Academy in 2016-2017.
"I have worked in many different school environments over the years including both urban and rural across the whole K-12 spectrum," said Hern. "My decade spent at Prairie Christian, which is a very similar school to ICSS, has provided me with the background to lead at ICSS. I am truly honoured to join the staff, students and families at Immanuel Christian and look forward to this tremendous opportunity."
Hern holds a Bachelor of Science from Simon Fraser University, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and a Master of Education - Educational Leadership from the University of Calgary.
He has also earned a Human Resources Management Certificate from the University of Calgary, along with his Superintendent Leadership Quality Standard, also from the U of C.
