Northlands College Reappoints Michael McCormick as President & CEO

May 4, 2026

The Board of Governors of Northlands College is pleased to announce the reappointment of Michael McCormick as President & Chief Executive Officer for a second term, effective April 25, 2026.

"Michael's leadership over the past term has brought renewed confidence, stability, and strategic momentum to Northlands College," said Nick Daigneault, Chair of the Board of Governors. "His reappointment reflects the Board's confidence in his ability to lead with integrity, accountability, and a deep commitment to northern learners and Indigenous communities. This decision ensures continuity as the College continues to strengthen its programs, partnerships, and financial sustainability."

Michael McCormick first joined Northlands College with more than two decades of executive leadership experience in post-secondary education, public infrastructure, and national operations. Since assuming the role of President & CEO, he has guided the College through a period of revitalization grounded in trust, transparency, and measurable impact. His leadership has focused on modernizing core systems, strengthening governance and financial sustainability, expanding Indigenous-centred strategies, advancing capital and accessibility initiatives, and renewing internal structures and performance systems.

"I am honoured by the Board's confidence and grateful for the opportunity to continue serving Northlands College," said Michael McCormick. "This College plays a vital role in supporting learners, communities, and Indigenous partners across Saskatchewan's North. I look forward to building on the strong foundation our staff have created together and to continuing our work to remove barriers, strengthen pathways, and ensure students can live, work, and thrive in the North."

Under Michael's leadership, Northlands College has restored fiscal confidence through disciplined budgeting and long-range capital planning; expanded partnerships with Indigenous governments, northern communities, universities, polytechnics, and industry; and strengthened program pathways aligned to regional needs. His leadership approach is collaborative and forward-looking, grounded in data-informed decision-making, fiscal responsibility, and the belief that reconciliation, inclusion, and student success are fundamental to institutional excellence.

Michael resides in La Ronge with his wife, Tammy, and is deeply committed to the northern mission of the College. His second term will focus on strengthening program relevance and pathways, advancing reconciliation and employee engagement, protecting fiscal capacity, and breaking down barriers to opportunity for learners across the region.
