Nursing faculty member appointed to First Nations Health Authority

Sheila Blackstock has been appointed to BC's First Nations Health Authority board of governors to represent the Interior region.

A member of the Gitxsan First Nation, Blackstock is an associate teaching professor at the Thompson Rivers University School of Nursing who is currently working on her PhD. Her research interests include Indigenous health, workplace bullying and community/occupational health.

She has more than 32 years' of nursing experience, working in leadership positions and in rural and regional Indigenous nursing practice in specialty areas, community health and occupational health nursing.

She is a founding member of TRU's Indigenous Health Nursing Committee and its first chair, where she has directed the work of promoting Indigenous nursing education and curriculum development in partnership with Indigenous communities.

The First Nations Health Authority Board of Directors provides leadership and oversight for the activities of the FNHA. The board membership provides years of experience in First Nations health, community development, financial management and political expertise at all levels of government.
