A Massassaga-Rednersville Public School student has raised over $1000 in support of cancer care at Belleville General Hospital through her Passion Project. She presented the BGH Foundation with a cheque for $1056.00 on January 24, 2025.
Students in Mr. Paul Van Rooy's class had an opportunity to do Passion Projects starting in the fall. These are independent projects where the students choose a topic that they are passionate about. There are frequent conferences with the teacher about their projects and next steps. The students decide on an effective way to demonstrate their learning and also present their projects to the class.
Ashika's Passion Project was inspired by what the class learned about Terry Fox in preparation for the September Terry Fox Run. She believed that she could use her crafting skills to make bracelets to raise money for the cancer department at the hospital.
Using her own money for supplies, she started making and selling bracelets at Belleville General Hospital on weekends and holidays. Congratulations to Ashika! Her passion, creativity and initiative are making a difference.
