"That's a lot of applesauce!"
That was just one of the reactions as a class of Lakeview Elementary School students ventured outdoors on Tuesday afternoon to collect box after box of applesauce, delivered to the school thanks to Lethbridge Real Canadian Wholesale Club.
In all, 90 cases of applesauce - 2,160 pouches in all, made their way inside the school - good enough for about five pouches per Lakeview student.
According to Zachary Gibb, Wholesale's store manager, the applesauce delivery is part of a unique initiative operated through the store's parent company.
"The Power-full Kids program is something that Loblaws has to give good, nutritious snacks to schools," said Gibb, "I picked Lakeview because it's close but also because my nephew goes here."
Gibb added the Wholesale Club has built a solid relationship with Lakeview over the years.
"I've participated in many events here, so it just made sense, and it's right down the street. So that's why we wanted to first of all include them with the Power-full Kids program and make this initial donation of the applesauce too."
Two other Division schools - Park Meadows Elementary School and G.S. Lakie Middle School, also receive applesauce deliveries this year.
