NORTHERN LIGHTS COLLEGE
Northern Lights College receives $8,500 equipment and FOS-HR scholarship from Birchcliff Energy

September 15, 2025

Northern Lights College has upgraded our boiler lab thanks to Birchcliff Energy's donation of a steam separator and valve for our Fort St. John Campus, a project worth $8,500.

This valve not only needed replacement, it is also integral as a teaching aid for our Field Operator Specialist- Hydrocarbon Resources (FOS-HR) and Power Engineering programs.

This contribution enabled us to replace and upgrade some key components of our steam turbine system, including piping, valves, and steam separation equipment.

These improvements will significantly strengthen the quality of hands-on learning available to our students which will improve learning outcomes.

Greg Vreim, Production Manager at Birchcliff Energy was proud to present this donation.

"We value our continued, strong relationship with Northern Lights College and are grateful for the opportunity to support these initiatives and the staff and students that make these programs successful."

Josh Klassen, Chair of Trades and Apprenticeships on the Fort St. John campus, expressed his gratitude.

"On behalf of Northern Lights College and the Power Engineering program, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude for Birchcliff's generous donation. We are honored by community support like this and deeply appreciate industries commitment to advancing education in the trades."

Klassen also explained the impact of donations like this for our students and programming.

"Contributions like yours are essential to the continued success and growth of our trades and apprenticeship programs! Birchcliff's generosity makes a meaningful difference, and we thank them for helping us inspire and equip the next generation of skilled professionals."

Birchcliff will also be providing a scholarship opportunity for a prospective student that plans to register in the Fall FOS-HR program.

NLC is grateful for these generous donations. If you are interested in donating to NLC, visit www.nlc.bc.ca/nlc-foundationnew window/.
