SIMCOE COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
Barrie elementary schools to celebrate 10 years of Rotary Book Day

November 17, 2025

Each November, Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) schools in Barrie celebrate Rotary Book Day, with each Grade 2 SCDSB student receiving a free book from the Rotary Club of Barrie. 2025 marks the tenth year of this partnership, which is intended to promote literacy and goodwill. In the 10 years of Rotary Book Day, over 10,000 books have been given to SCDSB students in the Barrie area.

On Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. Grade 2 students at Maple Grove PS will join SCDSB Director Dawn Stephens, Superintendent of Education Peter McLean, Michael Grube, Chair of the Rotary Club of Barrie Book Project, and Sprocket, Rotary's mascot, for a presentation of the donated books and a reading of Andy & Elmer's Apple Dumpling Adventure.

Aligned with the SCDSB's commitment to supporting literacy, developing community partnerships, and our character education program, Andy & Elmer's Apple Dumpling Adventure is a story of a young entrepreneur named Andy who, with the help of a mysterious voice providing guidance and support, learns the value of truthfulness, fairness, goodwill, and partnerships that benefit everyone involved.

Maple Grove PS is located at 242 Grove St. E., Barrie.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB Strategic Priorities in the areas of Community and Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
