GrandBridge Energy has strengthened its partnership with Conestoga College and demonstrated its commitment to training the next generation of utility professionals by donating two utility vehicles to the Powerline Technician (PLT) program.
This latest donation, a 2009 single bucket truck and a 2012 cargo van, marks the second time this year that GrandBridge Energy has provided vehicles to Conestoga College, underscoring the company's ongoing commitment to advancing the skilled trades. Earlier this year, GrandBridge Energy donated a 2009 double bucket truck and a 2013 pickup truck to the program.
As part of its fleet modernization plan, GrandBridge Energy identifies decommissioned but still fully operational vehicles that can be repurposed for training in the Powerline Technician program. These donations provide students with the opportunity to develop practical, industry-relevant skills in a safe, controlled training environment supporting both their educational success and the long-term sustainability of Ontario's powerline technician workforce.
GrandBridge Energy employees visited Conestoga College's Ingersoll Skills Training Centre on November 18 to deliver the vehicles and celebrate the donation.
"Our strong partnership with Conestoga College reflects GrandBridge Energy's commitment to developing the skilled powerline technicians our industry will depend on in the years ahead. Access to real utility equipment gives students meaningful hands-on experience that builds confidence and prepares them to contribute to our increasingly electrified future," said Sarah Hughes, President & CEO, GrandBridge Energy.
"On behalf of our Powerline Technician program, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to GrandBridge Energy for their continued generosity. This is the second donation this year, and the addition of a bucket truck and cargo van is invaluable to our students' learning experience. These contributions continue to allow us to provide hands-on training that mirrors real-world conditions, ensuring our graduates are well-prepared for the demands of the powerline industry. It is only with the continued support and generosity of our industry stakeholders like GrandBridge Energy that we remain the college of choice for students pursuing careers in the Powerline industry," said Angelo Cosco, Chair, School of Trades & Apprenticeship, Conestoga College.
Two Powerline Technician Apprentices Nick Clay and Josh Schell graduates of Conestoga's PLT program and now valued GrandBridge Energy employees, were also in attendance for the donation.
"Training with actual utility vehicles made a big difference by allowing me to experience real conditions that technicians encounter in the field," said Clay.
"Gaining hands-on experience with utility equipment at Conestoga gave me the confidence to enter the trade and apply my skills in the field from day one," said Schell.
GrandBridge Energy is proud to foster student development through co-op and summer placements, offering meaningful, hands-on experience while students complete their studies. The company also presents annual Academic Excellence Awards to Conestoga students enrolled in Energy Systems Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Electrical Techniques programs further reinforcing its commitment to education, innovation, and sustainability.
