On the heels of National Canoe Day, the Ted Rogers School of Management at TMU hosted a special event honouring the history, cultural significance and enduring impact of the canoe in Indigenous trade and relationships across Turtle Island.
Mi'kmaw artisan Todd Labrador, who built the birch bark canoe displayed in the TRSM building, shared teachings, his family's history and his work to preserve the craft of canoe building as an important aspect of Indigenous cultural preservation.
The canoe's role in early commerce, diplomacy and knowledge exchange helps inform Indigenous perspectives in business at TMU. This event reflects the Ted Rogers School of Management's ongoing commitment to centring Indigenous perspectives in education and creating space for Indigenous knowledge systems within business and beyond.
