THE KING'S UNIVERSITY
New Endowment Celebrates Métis Students

October 27, 2026

The Métis Education Foundation (MEF), an Institution of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, and The King's University are proud to announce a new partnership and the establishment of a permanent endowment dedicated to supporting Métis students pursuing post-secondary education at The King's University.

The Métis Education Foundation has invested $500,000 to establish an endowment, creating a lasting source of financial support for Métis students. This investment will help reduce financial barriers, expand access to post-secondary education, and create opportunities for Métis learners for generations to come.

"Education is a powerful pathway to opportunity, empowerment, and a stronger future for our Métis Citizens," said Andrea Sandmaier, President of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. "This partnership represents an important investment in our students and their potential. By helping Métis learners access post-secondary education, we are creating opportunities for them to achieve their goals, contribute to their communities, and build a brighter future for generations to come."

Through the endowment, the Métis Scholar Award has been established at The King's University, with Kendall McNabb, a second-year Bachelor of Commerce student, named as the inaugural recipient. Kendall's recognition marks an important milestone in the partnership and represents the first of many Métis students who will benefit from this investment in the years ahead.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment between the Métis Education Foundation and The King's University to advancing Métis student success and creating meaningful pathways to post-secondary education.

By establishing permanent educational funding, MEF is building a legacy that will continue to support Métis learners, celebrate their achievements, and create opportunities for future generations.

The establishment of this endowment also lays the foundation for a long-term relationship between MEF and The King's University, with opportunities to continue working together to strengthen Métis student success, belonging, and educational achievement.
