October 3, 2024

Olds College of Agriculture & Technology is receiving $1.5 million from the federal government to support applied agriculture research.

"We are pleased to get this funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) to support our applied agricultural research activities in the coming years," said David Fullerton, Director of Applied Research at Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI). "Funding like this is necessary to assist with the development and testing of smart agriculture technology. We are pleased that NSERC is providing funds to hire our college students for research projects and give them an enriching research experience. Here at Olds College, we are committed to growing Canada's ag industry in a profitable and sustainable manner."

The funding Olds College is getting is made possible through the College and Community Innovation program. Just over $29 million will support 58 research projects and programs at various post-secondary institutions across Canada.

"Better support for the next generation of researchers and more modern science and research infrastructure is key to supporting the secure and thriving economy of tomorrow," said the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of National Revenue. "By supporting researchers at all levels and promoting diversity, we are reinforcing Canada's leadership in tackling challenges and improving quality of life for all."

Last year, Olds College was ranked fourth in Canada's Top 50 Research Colleges according to Research Infosource Inc. Olds College was also the gold recipient of the 2024 Applied Research and Innovation Excellence Award from Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) in April 2024.
