On December 5th, 2024, the Cape Breton Building Trades and their Unionized Contractors gathered at Sydney Waterfront Campus to present a $100,000 donation in support of skilled trades programming at the campus.
"Substantial donations like this are made possible because of our building trades members and partner unionized contractors. When our tradespeople and unionized contractors are working here, we are giving back to Cape Breton Island and helping to create a more sustainable island," says Ernie Dalton, President, Cape Breton Building Trades.
Cape Breton Building Trades and Unionized Contractors are continuously involved in the community. As a long-time partner of NSCC, the group has supported students in Cape Breton for over 16 years through four annual student awards and more. They are involved in almost every major construction project on Cape Breton Island, including the newly opened Sydney Waterfront Campus.
"Along with working together on job sites, we work together on trades and safety training. Our tradespeople and unionized contractors are building hospitals, schools, and office buildings and working on important infrastructure like the new campus. We are proud to build in Cape Breton and this project revitalizes Sydney's downtown," says Chris Brace, President, AB Mechanical Ltd.
"We are proud to continue this partnership between NSCC Sydney Waterfront Campus and Cape Breton Building Trades and Unionized Contractors," says Carla Arsenault, Principal, NSCC Sydney Waterfront Campus. "They have and will continue to make an impact on our campus, students and alumni through their involvement with building the new campus, their support of student awards and skilled trades programming and alumni who are joining the workforce after graduation. We are incredibly grateful."
