ALGOMA UNIVERSITY
Algoma Receives ONCAT Capacity Grant to Enhance Digital Credentials and Student Supports

February 6, 2026

Algoma University is pleased to announce it has received an Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) Capacity Grant to implement MyCreds, a secure digital credential platform that will modernize how official academic documents are issued, shared, and verified.

This investment will support Algoma University in implementing a digital credential management system that enables students and alumni to access transcripts, letters, and other official documents through a secure, tamper-proof platform. By streamlining administrative processes and improving access to verified academic records, the initiative enhances student support while reducing processing time and costs.

The project aligns with ONCAT's mandate to advance learner mobility across Ontario's postsecondary system by improving how learners access and share credentials as they transition between institutions, return to education, or move into the labour market.

"Implementing digital credentials through MyCreds strengthens our ability to support learners at every stage of their academic journey," shared Dr. Brett Goodwin, Algoma University's Interim Vice-President Academic and Research. "This project improves access, efficiency, and security while ensuring students have greater control over their academic records."

ONCAT is funded by the Government of Ontario, offering Capacity Grants that support learner-focused initiatives at individual postsecondary institutions that enhance mobility, recognition, and access, working with colleges, universities, and Indigenous Institutes.
