The City of St. Albert sincerely appreciates the Government of Alberta allocating funding for three separate school projects in St. Albert. These projects were announced in the week leading up to, and the week after the Province tabled its 2026 budget, and include:
- Design funding for the new St. Albert Public Schools' K-9 school in Chérot
- Planning funding for a new Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools' K-9 school in Riverside
- Planning funding for École Leo Nickerson Elementary School Modernization
It has been almost eight years since a new school was built on a new school site in St. Albert; since that time, the City's population has grown by 8.5 per cent, adding an additional six thousand St. Albertans to the community. These new schools will help to mitigate the pressure on classroom sizes in St. Albert, which in turn will foster better learning environments and educational outcomes for St. Albert's children.
The City of St. Albert thanks the Government of Alberta for making these important investments into our community despite the financial pressures facing the Province. The City also wants to commend both the St. Albert Public Schools' and Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools' Boards for their leadership and tireless advocacy to ensure that the Province was aware of and acted on the educational needs of our community.
"These are not simply investments into new buildings. They are investments into many future generations of Albertans," says St. Albert Mayor Scott Olivieri. "It is investments like these that ensure the legacy of St. Albert being the best place in Canada to raise a family will continue for many years to come."
