Confederation College is expanding opportunities in skilled trades training following a $1-million investment from the Government of Ontario.
Announced by Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Kevin Holland, the funding will support apprenticeship training at the College's Thunder Bay campus, helping more students and apprentices gain the hands-on experience needed for in-demand careers. The College acknowledges and thanks MPP Holland for his continued support of skills training and workforce development in the region.
"This investment strengthens our ability to deliver hands-on training that reflects the needs of today's workforce," said Michelle Salo, President of Confederation College. "At Confederation College, we work closely with industry and community partners to create clear pathways into the skilled trades. Expanding access is key, especially for women, Indigenous learners and those in rural and remote communities, so more people can see themselves in these careers and succeed in them."
The funding is part of the province's Apprenticeship Capital Grant program, which focuses on strengthening training capacity across Ontario.
At Confederation College, the investment will support programs such as Industrial Mechanic and Millwright, helping ensure students are learning in environments that reflect current industry practices.
Demand for skilled trades workers continues to grow across the province, with significant workforce needs expected over the next decade. This investment helps the College prepare more graduates with the practical skills and experience employers are looking for.
