In a rapidly changing world, the Government of Canada is focused on building resilience here at home. We are empowering local communities, strengthening workforce, and creating the opportunities for long-term sustainable growth.
On June 29, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for FedNor, announced Government of Canada investments totalling $4,185,028 for nine initiatives that will accelerate economic, business and tourism growth in Timmins and surrounding areas.
Through the FedNor's core programs, these investments will help bring several important projects to life. This includes supporting the City of Timmins as they launch two immigration pilot programs to address skilled labour shortages and extend the BOOST program for three more years. The funding will also allow the Town of Iroquois Falls to establish a new industrial park and help the Porcupine District Agricultural Society expand a waterfront pavilion to support increased business activity and growth at the regional Farmers' Market.
In addition, the funding will help Northern College advance industry-academic research to help businesses commercialize new products and allow the Bucket Shop and Epitron Inc. modernize and expand their operations. It will also assist Mount Jamieson Resort and Cedar Meadows Resort in their efforts to grow their businesses by introducing new tourism offerings and attractions.
Together, these initiatives are creating jobs and fueling business and economic growth in Timmins and surrounding areas by strengthening communities and key sectors of the economy.
