La Cité announces that GÉNIElab, its applied research centre specializing in artificial intelligence (AI), prototyping and electromechanics, has received $100,000 in funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).
This investment will enable the centre to upgrade its technological equipment, increase its research capacity and foster collaboration with businesses, faculty, students and the broader community.
Designated a Technology Access Centre (TAC) in April 2025, the GÉNIElab plays a central role in La Cité's applied research and innovation ecosystem. Since its establishment in 2019, it has collaborated with more than 50 partners and contributed to more than 100 products and service innovations.
Three Investment Priorities
- Upgrading technological infrastructure: The acquisition of new simulation computers and the upgrading of modelling and simulation software will increase the efficiency of research activities and provide access to tools comparable to those used in the industry.
- Expanding research and prototyping capabilities: New equipment will increase 3D printing capacity, support polymer recycling and enhance precision measurement capabilities in electronics and mechanical engineering.
- Fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing: The funding will help make the GÉNIElab infrastructure and equipment more accessible to students, faculty, research teams and partners, thereby supporting collaborative projects and knowledge transfer.
"Applied research is a powerful driver of innovation and economic development. This investment will enable us to strengthen our role in supporting businesses and organizations in developing concrete solutions that enhance the productivity, competitiveness, and vitality of Ontario's Francophone communities."
Lynn Casimiro, President and CEO of La Cité
Through this funding, the GÉNIElab will strengthen its support for businesses while helping train the next generation of Francophone talent in research and innovation.
