MANITOBA
Government Expands Maryland Park School to Meet Growing Student Population in Brandon

October 16, 2026

The Manitoba government celebrated the opening of an addition at Maryland Park School in Brandon, increasing the school's capacity and ensuring more students can learn in modern, welcoming spaces close to home, Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt announced on October 9.

"Students learn best when they have the space, resources and support they need to succeed," said Schmidt. "This addition means hundreds more students in Brandon will be able to attend a school in their community and benefit from modern classrooms designed to support learning, collaboration and student success."

Brandon continues to grow, and investments in schools are helping ensure educational infrastructure keeps pace with the needs of families and communities, the minister noted.

"Our government is making historic investments in public education because strong schools are essential to strong communities," said Schmidt. "We're building and expanding schools, improving learning environments and creating more opportunities for students to thrive, while supporting growing communities like Brandon."

The new addition at Maryland Park School will help accommodate increasing enrolment in the Brandon School Division and provide students and staff with additional learning and support spaces.

"This addition to Maryland Park School is an exciting milestone for our community that ensures we can provide more students with access to modern learning spaces where they can feel welcome, supported and ready to succeed," said Linda Ross, board chair, Brandon School Division board of trustees. "We are proud to see this investment come to life and grateful to everyone who helped make this project possible."

The more than 17,800-sq.-ft. expansion includes 13 general classrooms, one science classroom, support spaces, additional parking and a new access point at the northwest corner of the school grounds. The project increases the school's capacity to 900 students from 550.

The addition, built by the Brandon School Division, welcomed students for the start of the 2026-27 school year.
