Building on the insights of the recently released C21 CIO Alliance Future of AI in K12 Education Report, C21 Canada and Dell Technologies announced the AI Use Case Initiative, a pioneering project to drive AI integration in K-12 education across Canada. This initiative, inspired by the visionary findings shared at the C21 CEO Academy Summit at the University of Calgary, aims to create sustainable, adaptable models of AI implementation, supporting schools in improving student achievement, enhancing teacher support, and streamlining administrative processes. "The AI Use Case Initiative represents a monumental shift in Canadian education, building on the CIO Alliance's recent report and the collaborative vision of the C21 CEO Academy Summit. This groundbreaking AI Use Case project represents a national collaboration with Dell Technologies to inspire and share innovative projects to help shape new standards for Canadian schools while empowering each district to explore the transformative potential of AI responsibly and innovatively." Robert Martellacci, Co-founder and CEO of C21 Canada, highlighted the initiative's potential By drawing on the research and recommendations of the Future of AI in K12 Education Report and the strategic insights developed at the C21 CEO Academy Summit, C21 Canada's AI Use Case Initiative empowers schools to shape their own AI journey, creating an AI-integrated future that meets each community's distinct aspirations.
"Each Use Case Problem of Practice represents how educators across the country are facing the challenges and exploring how AI can transform learning and improve practices in ways never before possible. This model has generated a wide range of school and district exemplars that showcase the integration of AI in learning within the culture and context of the daily workplace of Canadian education. Through these targeted use cases, educators are leveraging AI to support student well-being, improve learning outcomes, and meet unique community goals. They can inspire and illuminate the way for others." Karen Yamada, Chief Learning Officer of C21 Canada, describing the Intent of the initiative.
The AI Use Case Initiative involves collaboration with school districts across Canada, from West Vancouver School District in the west to Anglophone East School District in the east, implementing real-world applications of AI that address specific educational needs. Through these targeted use cases, districts are leveraging AI to support student well-being, improve learning outcomes, and meet unique community goals.
The Initiative offers a Pan Canadian showcase of educators and their students learning about AI through problems of practice in these classrooms, schools and districts across Canada and many others from coast to coast :
- Anglophone East School District: AI to Support District Achievement Goals in New Brunswick.
- Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board: Leveraging AI to bolster reading instruction, improving literacy outcomes in Ontario.
- Ottawa Catholic School Board: Documenting the purported benefits of AI in K-12 education in Ontario.
- Parkland School Division: Transform Educational Practices Through Artificial Intelligence in Alberta.
- West Vancouver School District: Introducing AI through Magic School in British Columbia.
"As we move forward, let's remember that the goal isn't to replicate success stories but to create the conditions where each teacher, school, and district can write its own story of AI integration one that reflects its unique community, challenges, and aspirations," said Dr. Chris Kennedy, Superintendent of Schools and CEO, West Vancouver School District.
