KEYANO COLLEGE
New Agreement Creates Path for Keyano College's Environmental Tech Grads to University of Alberta

August 7, 2025

Keyano College students can now pursue a degree at a leading Alberta research institution, thanks to a new transfer agreement with the University of Alberta.

The agreement, signed by Keyano College and the University of Alberta's Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences (ALES), establishes a clear pathway for graduates of Keyano's Environmental Technology diploma programs both co-op and non-co-op to transfer directly into the third year of several Bachelor of Science programs offered by ALES.

"This agreement is a significant step forward in supporting student mobility within Campus Alberta," said Dr. Coert Erasmus, dean of the School of Business, University Studies & Academic Upgrading at Keyano College. "It ensures our students can build on the strong foundation they receive at Keyano and continue their academic journey at one of Canada's top universities."

Under the agreement, eligible students who complete either the Environmental Technology Co-op Diploma or the Environmental Technology Diploma at Keyano College with a minimum Admission Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 3.0 will be considered for block transfer into the following University of Alberta programs:

  • BSc in Environmental and Conservation Sciences, with majors in:
    • Conservation Biology
    • Land Reclamation
    • Human Dimensions
    • Environmental Economics and Policy
    • Wildlife and Rangeland Management
  • BSc in Forestry

"Collaboration is key to ensuring the sustainability of Alberta into the future, making partnerships like this agreement with Keyano College important," said Dr. Rickey Yada, dean of the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences at the University of Alberta. "Keyano's graduates will hit the ground running in our experiential and work-integrated learning, preparing them to be the scientists, leaders and problem solvers of tomorrow."

The agreement recognizes Keyano's Environmental Technology diploma programs as providing a comprehensive body of knowledge, which streamlines the transfer process and reduces duplicated coursework. It also aligns with Campus Alberta's broader goals of enhancing collaboration and student access across the province's post-secondary institutions.

For more information about transfer opportunities, students are encouraged to contact Keyano College's Academic Advising Office or visit the University of Alberta's Faculty of ALES website.
