SHERIDAN COLLEGE
New pathway opportunities open doors for Sheridan students to three Master's programs at Niagara University

October 26, 2020

A new pathways partnership has launched that allows students who have completed specific Sheridan College four-year degrees to transfer credits into one of three Master's programs at Niagara University in Vaughan. The articulation agreement will recognize undergraduate coursework by Sheridan students toward graduate-level requirements, accelerating their completion of a master's degree in Business, Finance, or Information Security and Digital Forensics.

Graduates of Sheridan's five Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in the Pilon School of Business are eligible to apply 18 credits toward Niagara University's Master of Business Administration or 12 credits towards its Master of Science in Finance. Sheridan's five BBA degrees focus on Accounting, Finance, Human Resources Management, Marketing Management and Supply Chain Management. The complement of business programs, which boasts small class sizes, a highly collaborative and experiential learning environment, a required work term and optional co-op program, also offers academic flexibility.

Currently, Sheridan BBA students can change their degree path within their first two years of study, upgrade from a diploma or transfer from university. Now, with the pathway to Niagara University, Sheridan students are afforded meaningful opportunities to continue their educational journeys.

"Pursuing graduate-level programming adds yet another attractive option for our talented Business graduates to consider," says Dr. Anne-Liisa Longmore, Dean of the Pilon School of Business. "Many go on to rewarding careers in a range of industries. For those who are passionate about continuing their learning and upskilling, they now have unfettered access to Master's level education."

Another agreement with Niagara University creates a pathway from five technology-focused programs to a Master of Science in Information Security and Digital Forensics. The Sheridan programs include: Honours Bachelor of Computer Science (Mobile Computing) Honours Bachelor of Applied Information Sciences (Information Systems Security) Honours Bachelor of Computing and Network Communications - Internet Communications Technology Honours Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) and Honours Bachelor of Game Design.

Students from any one of these five programs who are accepted into Niagara University's Master's program are eligible to be awarded up to 12 credits for completion of Sheridan courses in data communication networking, computer programming, computer hardware and mathematics.

"It's a testament to Sheridan's industry-relevant and cutting-edge programming that there's credit transfer opportunities from undergraduate to graduate studies for our students looking to continue their academic pursuits," said Vertha Coligan, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology (FAST).

Niagara University's Vice President of Ontario Administration, Dr. Vince Rinaldo, looks forward to welcoming the first cohort of Sheridan graduates to its programs. "This agreement supports an area of focus at Niagara University, which is to build partnerships to provide access to our programming. The alignment between Niagara University and Sheridan College in our business and technology-focused academics presented a natural opportunity for students to explore graduate studies."

Pathways such as these allow Sheridan students to build on existing credentials and experience, making it easier to obtain credit for areas of study they have already fulfilled. There are multiple pathways between Sheridan programs in addition to transfer agreements with universities and colleges around the world. The articulation agreement between Sheridan and Niagara University remains in effect until September 1, 2025.
