NOVA SCOTIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE
NSCC students to tackle Premier's challenge during innovation event

November 16, 2022

This Friday (Nov 18), close to 300 Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) students will participate in the 8th Annual Challenge Nova Scotia competition - a pan-provincial event that calls on NSCC students to develop innovative solutions to a social challenge issued to them by Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston.

"I'm once again pleased to participate in the NSCC Challenge Nova Scotia event," says Premier Houston. "I appreciate Nova Scotians who step up and come up with solutions to our most pressing challenges."

At the beginning of the event, Premier Houston and NSCC President Don Bureaux address participants via a pre-recorded video and reveal this year's secret challenge question. Teams of three to five students will then develop their solutions and create 90-second explainer videos using online collaboration tools.

"After a lengthy pandemic, our province has faced many unique challenges that continue to impact individuals, communities, and the economy," says Don Bureaux. "This year's event focus will be shaped by the realities of today."

In the days following the event, the student team's ideas will be reviewed by a panel of judges - representing the College's industry and community partners. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams and their video solutions will be presented to Premier Houston for consideration.

Event: Challenge Nova Scotia
Date: Friday, November 18, 2022 (10 am to 10 pm)
Location: At all NSCC Campuses
