15 EcoSchools have sprouted in the Grand Erie District School Board!
Each year, students across Canada are invited to dig into their environmental footprint and stewardship in exchange for an EcoSchools certification. This credential recognizes students and staff who take action to improve school operations through everyday initiatives like waste-free lunches, recycling programs, energy conservation, Earth Day fairs and more for a healthier future.
"Our schools are leading the way with action," expressed Dr. JoAnna Roberto, PhD, Director of Education-CEO and Secretary of the Board. "We're inspired by the eco-stewardship, teamwork and grit of our student leaders, and the environmental efforts introduced this year by the school and Grand Erie's Facility Services and Curriculum teams."
The 2024-25 school year noticed a dramatic increase in school participation, resulting in added new resources to support professional development for educators to lead their eco-efforts and an Eco Symposium where students heard from a keynote speaker and engaged in environmental learning and activities.
