Mohawk students kick off Opioid Summit One datathon

November 4, 2019

This week, Mohawk students kicked off the Opioid Summit One, a province-wide datathon focusing on data analysis to address the festering opioid crisis.

Students from the Analytics for Business Decision Making Graduate Studies program heard first-hand about the opioid crisis in the Hamilton Region. A community panel was organized by Dr. Steven Way to provide students with context about crisis in the region. The students will now work on project based assignments to review the data supplied by the Institute of Smarter Government on the crisis and then present their findings on November 15.

The Opioid Summit One is a Datathon, established this year by Dana Fox, President/ CEO, Institute of Smarter Government. In this, its first year, the event includes students from Mohawk as well as groups from Algonquin College, Centennial College, Conestoga College, Durham College, Georgian College and St. Lawrence College.
