International education professionals from across the province gathered at Brock last week to exchange ideas and discuss current trends and developments in the sector.

The University hosted the 2024 Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) Ontario Regional Meeting on June 5 and 6.

Attended by industry leaders, the two-day event provided an opportunity for members of Ontario's international education community to learn, connect and discuss provincial government policies affecting international education.

The event featured two panel discussions, two presentations and 25 concurrent sessions covering topics such as international student services, mobility, partnerships, English as a Subsequent Language, and recruitment. Attendees also had the chance to visit Niagara Falls and participate in a networking reception.

During a panel discussion moderated by Anna Guo, Brock's Associate Director of International Student Recruitment, Brock President and Vice-Chancellor Lesley Rigg and OCAD University President and Vice-Chancellor Ana Serrano shared insights on their careers and discussed themes such as women in leadership within the global education sector.

A second panel discussion on the future of international education focused on recent government policies affecting international students. Moderated by Larissa Bezo, President and CEO of CBIE, the panel included senior internationalization officers, such as Brock's Interim Vice-President, External Meaghan Rusnell, who discussed recent Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada changes and their implications for the future of international education.

The regional meeting is one of four that take place across Canada along with CBIE's national conference in the fall. For more information, please visit the CBIE or Brock International websites.
