St. Scalabrini Welcomed to the YCDSB

On Friday, February 11, 2025, the Thornhill community gathered to celebrate the official renaming of Blessed Scalabrini CES to St. Giovanni Battista Scalabrini Catholic School. St. Scalabrini was canonized in October 2022, and the Thornhill school was excited to mark this incredible occasion for its namesake.

St. Scalabrini was the bishop of Piacenza, in northern Italy, from 1876 until his death in 1905. He dedicated his life to caring for immigrants and refugees. St. Scalabrini also founded a religious order, The Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles (more commonly known as the Scalabrinians), who provide religious care at St. Paschal Baylon Church, which is the parish of St. Scalabrini Catholic School.

St. Scalabrini Catholic School has continued its namesake's legacy of faith and charitable service. Trustees, Senior Team members, past principals, parents/guardians, members of St. Paschal Baylon Church and Vaughan Mayor Stephen Del Duca joined the St. Scalabrini CS students and staff in honouring this incredible day in the history of the school.
