John Abbott College's Fall open house turned into a full house on October 17 as a record number of prospective students and their families flooded the hallways to see what the College has to offer.
A conservative estimate places attendance at more than 8,200 visitors, topping last year's record-setting turnout.
"Beating a record two years running doesn't happen by accident. Families are telling us, by showing up, that a college education is a decision worth taking the time to get right, and John Abbott is clearly top of mind," Debbie Cribb, coordinator of communication services for John Abbott College and the John Abbott College Foundation, said.
Approximately 250 staff and student volunteers were on hand to answer questions about John Abbott's pre-university and technical programs. Guests were offered guided tours of the College, and hourly presentations from both the science department and social science departments.
The arts and culture scene was also a buzz. The theatre department displayed a sneak peek of its upcoming production set for "The Day the Internet Died". In the visual arts studio, a teacher and alumnus put on a demonstration using the department's etching press and screen-printing technology, while prospective student-athletes got to witness the Islanders might live on Memorial Field as the football team faced off against the Faucons du Cégep de Lévis.
Continuing Education, the Student Union of John Abbott College (SUJAC) and the John Abbott College Foundation were also on site, to ensure every aspect of the College - from student-run clubs to adult learning and alumni support - were well represented.
"I want to thank our staff, faculty, students, and volunteers for pulling off such an amazing event. Their hard work and dedication really showed John Abbott pride at its best," Cribb said.
