Cambrian College is once again offering free massages to prenatal and postpartum individuals who have given birth within the past 18 months, and infants.
From September 10 to December 18, students in Cambrian's Massage Therapy Clinic will be providing free, 60-minute sessions, Thursday and Friday mornings.
Appointments will be available in four weekly time slots:
- Thursdays: 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Fridays: 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The clinics provide upper-year Massage Therapy students with specialized clinical experience while delivering professional care under the supervision of registered massage therapists and faculty members.
"Our prenatal and infant massage placement has been one of the most rewarding clinical experiences to oversee as a faculty member at Cambrian," says Ali McKee, a professor in the Massage Therapy program. "The gratitude we see from prenatal and postpartum clients is truly remarkable, and our students consistently tell us how meaningful it is to provide care to individuals who often put their own well-being last while focusing on the needs of their growing families. In addition to offering therapeutic support for parents, the placement also provides valuable education on safe infant massage techniques, helping families build confidence and connection with their babies. It's a unique learning opportunity that benefits both our students and the community in a very tangible way."
In addition to the massage therapy clinics, Cambrian will also host infant massage seminars throughout the fall term. Families with babies up to one year of age will be invited to learn safe infant massage techniques alongside registered massage therapists and second-year Massage Therapy students. Seminar dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
Infant massage offers a variety of benefits, including strengthening the bond between parent and baby, promoting relaxation, easing common discomforts associated with infancy, supporting digestion, encouraging healthy muscle and joint development, and helping develop motor skills.
Appointments are free of charge, but advance registration is required as space is limited.
