In spring of last school year, the Maple Ridge - Pitt Meadows School District (SD42) gathered input from students, staff, and families across the district on potential changes to secondary school schedules at individual schools. We sincerely appreciate the time and insight shared by everyone who participated in this consultation.
Currently, all SD42 secondary schools follow a linear schedule, where students take up to eight classes throughout the full school year. The public engagement was designed to help the district understand if secondary school communities want to continue with this model, or if some schools may wish to transition to a semester schedule, with up to four classes per semester and two semesters in a school year.
We are now sharing the What We Heard report, which summarizes the public engagement results for each school. These findings will be provided to the Superintendent of Schools, along with the working group's recommendations, which will help inform the internal decision-making process. The superintendent will review all input, consider the recommendations alongside other educational and operational factors, and announce her decisions for each school in early November.
Any approved schedule changes would take effect in the 2026/27 school year.

Garibaldi Secondary School
Due to its Middle Years and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, Garibaldi Secondary must continue with a linear schedule. As a result, GSS staff, students, and families completed a different survey focused on identifying the supports and structures that will continue to strengthen success within the existing model.
