NORTHERN LIGHTS PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Classroom Complexity Teams to enhance existing strategies in NLPS

March 11, 2026

Northern Lights Public Schools (NLPS) is pleased to confirm it has been selected to receive funding for three Classroom Complexity Teams. These teams will provide support to students and staff at three schools: Art Smith Aviation Academy (Cold Lake), Duclos School (Bonnyville) and Ecole Plamondon School.

The division will receive $300,000 to fund each team, which will consist of one teacher and two educational assistants. Any remaining funds can be used towards specialized services such as assessments, speech-language pathology and occupational therapy. The teams will remain in place through the 2026-2027 school year.

"As a small, rural school division, we face unique challenges in addressing the growing complexity in our classrooms and supporting our students," said Board Chair Karen Packard. "We are grateful that the government is taking action on the data that was provided to them and we look forward to the next steps, including welcoming the Classroom Complexity Teams into our schools."
