UNIVERSITÉ DE MONCTON
Université de Moncton opens new e-sports room on Moncton campus

September 16, 2024

The Université de Moncton is proud to announce the official opening of its brand new e-sports room, a space in the Student Centre dedicated to the training and performance of our e-sports team.

The UMoncton E-Sports Team was founded in 2022 by Rayan Hage (VaroksOne), a computer science student who helped form the first League of Legends teams. Since 2023, psychology student Camille Pelletier (Lethalite) has taken on the role of president of the board. In addition to League of Legends, UMoncton E-Sports competes with Super Smash Ultimate and Valorant, for which Sébastien Allen (Oreo) is the new coach.

This new room is equipped with the latest gaming equipment, including high-performance computers and ergonomic chairs designed to optimize comfort during extended gaming sessions. Every detail has been designed to create a professional competitive environment, giving our e-sports team all the resources they need to achieve their performance goals.

Dr. Denis Prud'homme, President and Vice-Chancellor of Université de Moncton, emphasizes the importance of this new facility: "It is a great privilege for our institution to be able to offer our students a training space that matches their talent. It demonstrates our commitment to developing new sporting disciplines and supporting emerging talent in the field of e-sports." The funding for this venue was made possible by the UNI DiversiT Fund, which aims to provide financial support for exceptional student projects that promote student initiative, potential and commitment, as well as contribute to the dynamism and impact of student life.

The Université de Moncton is also providing financial support to the e-sports team, granting them $60,000 over three years (from 2024 to 2027), which will allow the team to travel to competitions.
