Confederation College is celebrating a historic achievement as Thunderhawks golfer Nathan Lepore captured the gold medal at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Provincial Golf Championships, held at Watson Glen Golf Club in Pickering, Ontario.
After falling just short in a two-way playoff in 2024, Lepore returned with determination. He posted even par scores in the opening two rounds, then fired a 71 on the final day to finish at one-under 215 and secure a three stroke victory.
The win makes Lepore the first-ever OCAA golf medalist in Confederation College history, and now the first ever OCAA individual champion from the Thunder Bay school. His performance also earned him a place on the OCAA Men's Golf All Ontario Team.
"This win means a lot to me after coming so close last year," said Lepore. "I worked hard over the offseason to be ready for this moment, and I'm proud to bring home gold for Confederation College and the Thunderhawks. I'm excited to represent the College on the national stage."
Thunderhawks Head Coach Evan Littlefield, himself a former OCAA and CCAA champion, praised Lepore's perseverance and leadership on the course.
"Nathan's growth as a player over the past year has been incredible to watch," said Littlefield. "He showed resilience, composure, and championship-level skill. This win is a credit to his hard work and to the strong culture we're building in Thunderhawks golf. We're looking forward to seeing him compete at Nationals."
Teammates Trevor Green, Hunter Hutchinson, Eric Pitkanen and Carson Stone also competed, gaining valuable experience against the top collegiate golfers in Ontario.
Lepore and Coach Littlefield will now head to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Golf Championships presented by PING, taking place October 12-17, 2025, at Desert Blume Golf Course just outside Medicine Hat, Alberta.
The Thunderhawks golf program, supported by the Student Union of Confederation College Inc. (SUCCI), continues to make its mark in the OCAA, with Lepore's gold standing as a milestone achievement and his Nationals berth underscoring the program's growing success.
