YUKON
Government of Yukon piloting new app for real-time school bus tracking

May 13, 2026

The Government of Yukon is launching a pilot project to test MyBusStop, a live school bus tracking application.

The Department of Education is running a one-month pilot project that started on May 11 and will end on June 12 on Route 4 and Route 23. This limited test will help determine that the technology works properly before the department makes any long term decisions. A total of 56 families on these routes have been invited to take part. These families have received instructions on how to access the live tracking feature in MyBusStop.

During the pilot project, participating families will be able to see their school bus location in real time. This information can help families plan morning and afternoon routines, reduce wait times and feel more confident about bus arrivals.

At the end of the pilot, participating families will be asked to share their feedback. This feedback will help the department understand what works well and what needs improvement. If the pilot is successful, the department plans to expand the bus tracking feature to all routes at the start of the 2026-27 school year.

If a school bus route is not part of the pilot project, My School Bus Monitor remains the best way to stay informed and receive real time notifications. The department encourages all families with students who ride the school bus to sign up.

Quick facts

  • MyBusStop is available on smartphones and computers.
  • This pilot project is in collaboration with Standard Bus Yukon.
  • The participating routes were selected by the Transportation Committee which is comprised of school council members.
  • The system tracks the bus via a GPS device and not individual students.
