Our students are growing up in a world where they can connect with friends, explore new ideas and find answers to almost anything with just a few taps on a screen. But not everything they see online is true, not everyone they encounter has good intentions, and the choices they make online can have very real consequences. That's why, at the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB), we're teaching students that being a good digital citizen isn't just about staying safe. It's about knowing right from wrong, treating others with kindness and respect, and making thoughtful choices, even when no one is watching.
Guiding Children Through the Digital World
Parents play a crucial role in helping children develop essential skills for navigating the digital landscape. Engaging in regular discussions about online experiences, social media, gaming, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital reputation can empower children to make informed decisions. It also ensures they know where to seek support when necessary. Building trust and maintaining open communication are often the most effective strategies for helping children navigate the digital world safely.
