GEORGE BROWN POLYTECHNIC
Career Services Connect Day and On-Campus Job & Volunteer Fair spotlight student opportunity

April 1, 2026

This March, Career Services delivered a full slate of campus-wide programming designed to help students explore career pathways, build confidence, and connect with meaningful opportunities. Through Career Services Connect Day events and the On-Campus Job & Volunteer Fair, students engaged with employers, alumni, campus partners, and advisors across all three campuses.

Career exploration, connection, and insights

Over three days, Career Services Connect Day brought together students, employers, alumni, and advisors for a range of interactive sessions focused on career exploration, the future of work, well-being, and skill development. Industry partners from sectors including public service, transportation, and entrepreneurship shared insights and opportunities, while alumni spoke candidly about their professional journeys.

The programming examined the role of emerging technologies and AI in career planning and featured interactive workshops like the Challenge Cards experience, which encouraged students to think beyond job titles and consider careers driven by the challenges they want to solve.

Sessions also highlighted confidence-building and career readiness, including an inspiring keynote on resilience and self-awareness by career coach and author Kendra Court, practical job-search strategies from Rownak Chowdhury of the City of Toronto, and insights into mindset and well-being from Rebecca Madarasz, emphasizing sustainable success. Deandra Christopher, Accessibility & Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Consultant, shared her expertise and practical advice on workplace accommodation discussions, underscoring their essential role in linking classroom learning with real-world experience. Students also learned how Alumni Relations supports lifelong professional growth through networking, alumni communities, and recognition programs, presented by Bill Ng, Alumni Career Success Coordinator.

Community gives back

Alumni voices played a key role in the programming. George Brown grads Maryam Nehrir, Adrian Ghisa, and Adam Daniels shared their career journeys in career development, marketing, and game design, while alum Barry Ling, RBC Manager of Paid Social, discussed his path into the financial industry.

Employer and community partners participated in the event to share valuable insights. The Ontario Public Service showcased internship and summer opportunities and offered perspectives on navigating careers in the public sector for neurodivergent professionals. CN Rail shared recruitment processes and career pathways for students and recent graduates, and the Canadian Armed Forces highlighted a variety of potential non-combat roles in healthcare, logistics, technology, and trades.

Aspiring entrepreneurs also benefited from startGBC's session on transforming business ideas into real-world action and were introduced to the wealth of knowledge, support, and funding opportunities available right on campus.

On-Campus Job & Volunteer Fair connects students to opportunities

Career Services also concluded the first On-Campus Job & Volunteer Fair of 2026, with over 200 students attending to explore on-campus employment and volunteer opportunities and to connect directly with teams from across George Brown.

Students gained insight into upcoming spring and fall job openings, hiring timelines, and tips for standing out in the application process. The Career Services Coaching Corner was a hub of activity, providing confidence-boosting support, last-minute pep talks, and personalized guidance on engaging with hiring teams. Students who visited also had the chance to enter a prize draw featuring gifts and swag generously donated by Staples Canada, Bold Bites, Alumni Relations, GBC Foundation, the School of Makeup & Aesthetics, and the Student Association.

With networking and support woven throughout every event, Career Services' March programming brought together the people, tools, and insights students need to move forward with confidence on their academic and career journeys.
