HEARST, ON Université de Hearst is pleased to announce that it has partnered with REES (Respect, Educate, Empower Survivors) to make online reporting available to the campus community. REES is a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week centralized online reporting and information platform that provides increased options for students, staff, and faculty to report sexual violence. Luc Bussières, President of Université de Hearst, is certain that this new, comprehensive platform will provide a safe and confidential space for students to report abusive and/or inappropriate behavior. "I believe that if our students or staff members are victimized, we must give them the tools that will help them regain their power. At Université de Hearst, we value and prioritize our students' wellbeing."

According to a 2019 Stats Canada Survey on Individual Safety in the Postsecondary Student Population, 71 per cent of postsecondary students witnessed or experienced unwanted sexualized behaviours over the past year, yet less than one in ten spoke about what happened with someone associated with the school.

Université de Hearst joins Bishop's University, Université de Saint Boniface, University of Windsor, Mount Allison University, St. Francis Xavier, and others in implementing REES.
