To continue to strengthen Saskatchewan's workforce and to meet the healthcare needs of residents, Carlton Trail College is expanding its post-secondary program offerings for 2023-24, especially for students and young adults interested in health careers.
"The demand for trained healthcare workers remains high, especially for rural and remote areas, and so with the support of the Province and post-secondary partners, Carlton Trail College is expanding related programs to help meet this need," said Amy Yeager, Carlton Trail College President and CEO.
Program expansions follow the January 31, 2023 announcement by Advanced Education, whose recent $5.5 million investment into the post-secondary sector is resulting in additional seats being made available across 18 health training programs.
At Carlton Trail College, healthcare program expansions include:
- Primary Care Paramedic
- Continuing Care Assistant
Carlton Trail College's support for healthcare program development aligns with the Training pillar within Saskatchewan's Health Human Resources Action Plan. The plan aims to invest over $60 million and add more than 1,000 health professionals into the health system over the next few years.
Additional programs offered at Carlton Trail College over 2023-24 include: Agriculture Sciences, Community Justice, Early Childhood Education, Electrician, Heavy Equipment Operator, Industrial Mechanics, Office Administration, Practical Nursing, Security Officer, 1A Truck Driver, and Welding. English Language Training and academic upgrading and essential skills courses are also offered year-round.
As part of Saskatchewan's post-secondary sector, regional institutions like Carlton Trail College are a vital link in rural and remote areas to help people train, retrain, or upgrade their skills to succeed in their chosen career or to find new employment.
