After a review was completed this past year, Langara's Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Post-Degree Diploma in Nursing Practice in Canada programs will maintain their status in the province as leading academic nursing programs.
The review panel of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Education Program Review Committee (EPRC) has recommended that recognition of both Langara's nursing programs be granted for a maximum period of seven years, without terms or conditions, until December 2029. This is the longest recognition awarded by the provincial regulatory body.
"Langara's nursing program has long been recognized as a leader within the nursing community," said Dr. Paula Burns, President, Langara College. "We thank the review committee for their support and will continue preparing our students to fill B.C.'s need for highly trained registered nurses."
"This is a significant event - worthy of celebration," said Margaret Heldman, Vice President Academic and Provost, Langara College. "I am grateful to the nurse educators in our Faculty of Nursing for delivering exceptional education."
The reviews examine evidence of processes and policies to support the development of safe and competent graduate nurses; opportunities for student skill development in simulation labs; a clear outline of student competencies; examples of a formative and summative feedback process provided to students; robust orientation and support for faculty, and clear support of the organization supporting the program.
Langara College has a long history of offering nursing education, offering first a Collaborative Nursing Program in British Columbia (CNPBC) and following this with a separate offering of a Bachelors of Science Nursing Program, and a more recently developed program of Nursing Practice in Canada for internationally trained nurses.
