May 8, 2023

By Chris Clay

It was a successful showing for Humber College students at the Skills Ontario Competition as they earned a number of medals including several golds.

The annual competition gives students an opportunity to show off the skills they've learned in their programs as they face off against their peers from across the province in complex challenges designed to showcase their expertise in various sectors.

Humber sent almost 40 students to the competition, which was held May 1 to 3 at the Toronto Congress Centre - the first in-person event after three years of it being held virtually during the pandemic.

In total, they won four gold medals, two silver and three bronze.

The winners are:

Ashley Noller, Automation & Controls - Gold

Andrian Presot, Cabinetmaking - Gold

Jonathan Medina Delgado, Landscape Design - Gold

Dillon Kong and Paxton Coghlin, Mechatronics (Team of 2) - Gold

Alfonso Miguel Alvaran, Electronics - Silver

Mayte Vancini, Landscape Design - Silver

Marcus Lahn, Mechanical CAD - Bronze

Matthew Redwood, 3D Digital Game Art - Bronze

Luke Crilly and Matthew Alvarez, Horticulture & Landscape (Team of 2) - Bronze

Some of the winners will now move on to the Skills Canada National Competition happening at the end of the month in Winnipeg with an eye on advancing to the WorldSkills Competition.
